Reflection Section: Matariki has 9 stars?!

Text purpose: To inform people that a Maori astronomer claims that there are 9 stars in Matariki instead of 7 stars.

Summary:

TVNZ informs there is a Maori astronomer that claims there are 9 stars instead of 7 stars in Matariki. A man named Dr Rangi Matamua that there is Waiti and Pohutukawa. He then talks about having an extra month, 13 months, in every 3 years or so. This because of the constellations and the time telling by using the stars.

- in my opinion, this text is targeting Maori related people. This is due to their religion and strong belief in Matariki.

- This genre probably belongs to the news and more of a religious Maori community.

Reflection Section: What is Chinese New Year?

Text Purpose: To show the audience what is Chinese new year in the Philippines like.

Summary:

The presenter first talks about what do people do to celebrate the Chinese new year. Then moves on the dishes that people make for the celebration. For instance, mochi, springs rolls and more. Chinese new year is celebrated to honour the deities and make families come together. Most young adults get a red card that has cash in it. Many kids would be overjoyed after this delight gifting of red cards.

Our class getting examples for our speech assessment and one of the examples that we saw was this video. We watched this video to get a gist of what to do for our upcoming assessment.

Summary:

In this interview, Simon Sinek talks about his 4 main points about Millenials. Firstly parenting. Due to the lack of good parenting/leadership around the world today, the current generations are lacking confidence and has the needs for short term reliefs. The second point was a technology/social media. According to him, due to the temptation of wanting to check/use a phone. The innovations are minimizing within the future generations this is because of addiction towards phone use. Thirdly, having he needs of easy work: impatience. The generations today have become more impatient because of instant gratitude. Lastly, the environment. He talks about how we can manage the temptation of phone usage. For example, people should not charge their phone in their bedroom to resist temptation.

Is the text fair?

In my opinion that text was not fair due to him not having the/a Millenial's perspective. A lack of the opposition's point of view can determine the argument.  Therefore, I think this text is not fair prior to a lack of judgement to the other perspective.

Reflection Section: Manga (One Punch Man)

Summary:

One punch man is a Japanese animated series. Which many called, anime. As suggested in the title, the MC of this anime is called Saitama. This anime is created by an author that calls himself ONE, illustrated by Yusuke Murata and he used the Madhouse studio to create this masterpiece. Saitama is a superhero who can defeat his enemy with just a single punch but seeks to find a worthy opponent after growing bored by a lack of challenge due to his overwhelming strength. Lastly, One punch man was written in 2009 with 141 chapters. It was then later on published on June 14 2012.

Who benefits from the text?

This text is mainly targeting teenagers/adults to watch this show. Teens can benefit from having entertained or it can be material for school purposes. Whereas, adults can get some art style inspirations and inside jokes for creating their own manga/anime.

Text purpose: To show the importance of how to take losses.

Summary: 

In this video, Denzel explains how failing is a way to success. He explains failure in various ways. First how it leads you to success. Secondly, how not able to accept failure you can't go on forward. Lastly, how it can be a source of motivation to carry a career in life. He then pursues on going about how he lived through someone's prophecy which he couldn't see at the start of his life. However, in the end, everything came three prior to the elder's prophecy.

Who benefits from this text?

From senior high school students to graduating students, they can benefit from it since it talks about not giving up. Having the acceptance to lose and fall forward. Not being scared of failing multiple times before success happens.

What do the images suggest?

In this text, they made the speech of Denzel Washington into a video prior to his dialogue. We can see each image portrays each of the emotions of what is Denzel speaking about. Also, the thing that is happening to him at that time.

Summary:
In this image, our teacher explained that using the learning pit is helpful to use. We used a different image but I couldn't find the specific one so I used this one. This image, it explains that failures can be driven towards a successful future even though it was hard. First, you fall into a deep pit. Not falling into disparity, thinking about how to overcome the certain problem. Then find opportunities to overcome the problem. Finally, succeeding it.

Due to the text's important messages such as not giving up. It is beneficial for everyone. Learning from mistakes is essential for life.

In my opinion, this image suggests the never giving up is needed to be succesful.

In this documentary, we could see how Richi Mccaw - from a young age - developed setting goals. In the end, his goals helped him to achieve his destination. The Story starts off when he was still a child he watched a rugby game and liking it a lot. In his teenage stage, he met his uncle that told him that he was going to be All Black. He made a lot of mistakes during his journey to become a G.A.B (great all black). Meaning, if you want to achieve your goal, don't be afraid to make mistakes.

In this video, we see Taika Waititi explaining what you would need to be a racist. It doesn't need to be a big one. Like, having a shirt that says "I'm Racist". It could be also the little things. like just chuckled about a racist joke.

- In my opinion, I think he was being sarcastic, ddoing the phsychological twistery.

In whose intrest is this?

- This video are suspecting people who are involved with racism/ mostly everyone/ teenagers/ adults.

The cards - Text, Reflection section

 Text title: A game of cards

Type article: Short story

Text purpose: To acknowledge people that something so simple can be so important.

Date: 26/02/2021

In this short story, the protagonist is the mokopuna (grand child) of Nani Miro, whose the favourite one, going back to her grandma just before she dies. The story begins in the protagonist childhood talks about him wanting to go back to her granndma's house every weekend. He explains how a game of cards excites her grandma and that her rival and Miro's closest friend at the same time. At the end of the story, everyone gathered to play a game of cards, and there they are, grandma Miro and mrs Heta arguing who cheats. THen eventually Nani Miro died and years later Mrs Heta died. They were buried close.

Critical Thinking:

What does the author of this text want us to know?

- In my thimking, the author want us to know that something can be a symbol as the most important thing to them.

Who is missing in the text?

In my perspective, the author is missing the mentioning of the Grandma's childrens.

In the presention of Andrea Quijada - a video that's was used to present critical thinkers - is stating that kids should use this skillset to povide them the attribute to see whether if it's a hoax or real. This can be also use to know the deeper meaning or true intention of the visionary text. Overall, Andrea greatly stated that having this skillset (Thinking Critically) well be  great help throughout your studies.

Reflection Time - The Treaty

 In the dramazitation "The Treaty of Waitangi - Wha really happened" directed by Peter Burger. This dramazitation shows what really happened in the Treaty of Waitangi. The key points are, the Crown writing the Treaty. The arguments and discussions between the maori and the pakeha about the treaty. The Maori signing the Treaty and lastly, tobacco and blankets getting shared out to the people.
