Gravity - Helicopter experiment

The Helicopter Expriment

Newton has 3 Laws of Motion.

1. An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

2.Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The greater the mass (of the object being accelerated) the greater the amount of force needed (to accelerate the object).

3. For every action there is an equal and opposite re-action.

Aim: To make a helicopter and look at the force of gravity.

Hypothesis: The size of the wings will effect the speed that the helicopter travels.

Equipment:
  1. Stopwatch - use the Google stopwatch on your chromebook
  2. Helicopter template / paper
  3. Drawing pin
Method:

Image result for paper helicopter template

  1. Make the helicopter by cutting out the template.
  2. Drop the helicopter from a height. Use the same person.
  3. Time each drop and record the time when it hits the floor.
  4. Each time it is dropped you will make a change to its form.
  • With a paperclip on the bottom.
  • Use heavier material ( Cardboard)
  • Cut the body in half to give it a short body.
  • Cut the wings to give it short wings
  1. Time each time you drop it.
  2. Record the findings on a chart

TypeTime
Paperclip1.58
Cardboard1.84
Short wings1.21
short body1.70

Findings: What do the findings from your four flights say? Write about them.

Paperclip was not working, Cardboard was the longest, The short wings was the slowest, and Short was a bit cranky at flying.

Summary: What was the best result? ( The longest time will be the

The longest was the Cardboard

The definition of Forces
A force can cause an object to accelerate, slow down, remain in place, or change shape.

Bouncing ball

Aim:
I want to find out if there is a relationship between how high a ball is dropped from and how high it bounces up.

Hypothesis:
I predict that the higher the ball is dropped from, the higher it bounces.

Method:
The equipment that I will need is:

  • Bouncy ball
  • Ruler
  • Stand with boss head and clamp

Height of drop
Height of bounce on carpet
Height of bounce on concrete
80cm
 10cm 39cm
90cm
 21cm 36cm
100cm
 31cm 43cm

Findings:
The ball bounces higher in concrete than in the carpet.

  1. Attach the clamp to the stand.
  2. Clamp the ruler onto the stand so that the zero mark is on the ground.
  3. Hold the bottom of the ball on 50cm and drop.
  4. Record the height of the bounce measuring the bottom of the ball.
  5. Repeat the experiment twice more and record the average measurement.
  6. Repeat the whole experiment using heights of 60cm, 70cm, 80cm, 90cm, 100cm

Variables:

Independent (changing) Variable = The height of the drop
Dependent (measured) Variable = The height of the bounce

    Results:

Conclusion: It bounces higher from 90cm to bounce to 36cm in the concrete.

It bounces lower from 90cm to bounce to 21cm in the carpet.

Top ten fastest in the word

    Fastest in Space – Unmanned
Top Speed: 153,800 mph
To escape Earth's gravitational pull, an object must be traveling around 25,000 mph. Accordingly, planetary probes are the fastest objects humankind has engineered. In 1976, the Helios 2 orbiter became the fastest manmade object, traveling twice the speed of Earth's orbit around the sun. The orbiter's speed was caused not by its own thrust but by an eccentric orbit caused by the mass of the sun. In its closest approach, the orbiter was 26 million miles away from the star–10 million miles closer than the planet Mercury. At its top speed, the Helios 2 was traveling 42.7 miles every second.

    Fastest in the Air
Top Speed: 7000 mph
This experimental jet-powered aircraft can fly at almost 10 times the speed of sound. After being transported to 100,000 feet by a rocket booster, the X43 detaches and its scramjet engine is ignited. Unlike a rocket, which is powered by fuel that requires a bulky oxidizer, a scramjet obtains its thrust by mixing fuel with supersonic air. Just 10 seconds of thrust from the engine accelerates the unmanned plane to Mach 9.2, or two miles per second. NASA hopes this technology can one day make travel to low Earth orbit more affordable.
