Atmosphere- The mood or feeling of a place.

Mood - feeling

Location - a place where something is set

Warm light - orange, yellow or red tinge, cozy, warm, welcome.

Cold light - blue, green, white - gray, make it feel clean, sterile, modern,

Bright - obivious, feel happy, energetic

Dull - faded/muted light, boring, lonely, sad. tiresome

Natural - Sun, reflections, moon, stars, lightning, fire

Artificial - lighbulbs, screens, LEDS, manmade sources of light, electric,

Colour Pallette - all the colours used in that shot, e.g District - naturals - black, green, brown, greys,

Scene name: District 12

What is happening?

Katniss is running through town to go to hunting in the woods.

Techniques - cold light - lots of greenery, dull, natural -  sunlight and clouds.

Effect on the viewer - cold, not where you want to be, back in time, old-fashioned, lots of poverty -  outdated materials, live closer to the land.

Director's Purpose - (Pick a theme) Rich v Poor - who has more privilage, power & opportunity.  They don't have the privilage of technology - no artificial sources of light. 

Other techniques - Costumes - greys/blacks- coal miner, black shoess less dirt. 

Scene name: Trin station at the Capitol

What is happening?

The Capitol citizens are waiting for the tributes to arrive.

Techniques - lightning, cold light, bright, artificial- electricity. Colour palette - colourful, vibrant, vivid costumes and white/grey modern walls.

Effect on the viewer - Modern, sets the mood - excited for the tributes to arrive.

Director's purpose- Rich v Poor, privellege, power & opportunity- they ahve acces to technologu- trains, the station, better seqing technology because the costumes are better. Not poverty in Capitol - they don't have to work, privellege of being able to go and watch the tribute arrive. 

In the scene at the train station, lighting and colour are used sunstantially to show the thme of 'Rich v Poor'. In this case, rich means the privileges given to those in the Capitol. This is demonstrated though the use of bright, cold, artifcial lighting and a modern colour paletter of whites and greys for the building and vibrant pinks and blues for the clothing. This makes the audience feel like they are the location is modern and the citizens are excited for the tributes to arrive. The purpose of this  was to show that the Capitol has  the privelledge of technology- electricity, trains and access to better clothing. This worked well with the used of costume. The costumes of the Capitol are unique, exquisite and exotic which shows they have more variety and sewing than those of people in the districts. This can be juxtaposed on the conditions in District 12 where there is no electricity and the colours and lighting are more natural.
