P.E Reflection

This week for P.E we had to finish our fitness pre test results and I've done half of the work. So, I had to do 4 fitnessis to be able to finish. I've finished 3 of them this week and next I will be able to finish all of them.

Personal Opinions
Reflection:
- How are you feeling about being back? I'm feeling okay since I could meet my friends and a bit worried about Coronavirus.
- What are some things that you did for exercise/activity for lockdown? I played basketball on our backyard every afternoon and some football with my siblings.
- Any work for P.E completed? Why? or Why not?
I have made some progress over the lockdown and the reason behind this is because I was bored and I had to do it.

SDL Reflection/Goal week term 2(7)

This week I am trying to achieve the goal:
Knowing what I need to improve

Three ways to improve:
-  More awareness
- Knowing my mistakes
- Getting feedback on my work

During the lockdown, i've used many ways to
improve my learning including increasing my
 vocabulary.

Tomorrow, When the war Began (Novel Study)

Today in English. we have finished chapter 4 and there are only
2 questions that were needed to answer. This is the results.

  1. Ellie claims that ‘Hell’ is only a label and that people label things all the time, often ignoring or overlooking certain labelled places or things. She then comes to the conclusion that ‘Hell was people’.pg 43. Is she right? What’s your opinion, on labelling and Hell? Yes, many people judge based on what they hear without even knowing the truth.
  2. What was especially peculiar about the planes that flew over Hell? ‘Their noise, their speed, their darkness frightened me.’ Pg. 38 Do these characteristics have any significance? The words that were used were pretty similar to a scene where everything goes wrong.

Tomorrow, When the war began (Novel Study)

Must Do Questions:

Looking at the original cover to the right, answer the following questions, remember to explain why you think that for each answer:

  • How do you think this story will be written? In a continues events starting a gun fight.
  • Why do you think the story is entitled as it is? There will be a war starting.
  • Where do you think the story will take place? In an open space where you could only see lands and lands in your vision.
  • What time period do you think the story is set in? 1860’s

Today for English I've finished 1 chapter of the book and answered the questions below.

  1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of first person narration?
  • Disadvantage - The challenge of whether each person is allowed to go for the trip.
  • Advantage - She has a reputation for taking herself well in the wild and responsibilities. She had many friends.

  1. What kind of story do you think Ellie is going to tell? Uses evidence from the text to support your answers.
  • I think the spark of the book is going to the other side of Tailor’s stitch which is “Hell”. Ellie and her friend mentioned about there are a lot of excitings and horrific findings. There are also going to be camping at the end of Tailor’s stitch.

  1. What set of skills do these characters have that convince their parents that they can ‘go bush’ independently. Find examples for three characters e.g Ellie tells Robyns parents they have ‘independence and initiative’ p.11

  • Homer, a wild young boy who likes to go hunting. Ellie, a girl with a lot of knowledge for the wilderness. Robyn, a short and intelligent girl who always at the top of her class always competitive and very sporty.

Work from home - Week 4 - (Oscar and Nate DNA adventure)

 Made in Taiwan

Oscar and Nathan’s excellent adventure

The programme traces the tradition made by Oscar and Nate to find where their ancestors migrated from.  Nate is from New Zealand and Oscar is from Samoa .  Oscar and Nate used DNA to show who their ancestors were who journeyed across the Pacific. Scientists at Oxford University use genes to identify a person’s clan mother and father.  The Polynesians who navigated their way across the Pacific used Stars to navigate by; Oscar and Nate are using their DNAto go backwards in time.

Nate’s family are from Mahia on the east coast of New Zealand’s north island and he went back there to open the results from the DNA test, where they were shared onto the marae.  According to the scientists, Nate’s clan mother was from East Eurasia and America (not from England as she thought).  Nate’s father is Maori.

The next stop on their journey was 3000 km away in Rarotonga in the Cook Islands.  According to the scientists who study DNA, three-quarters of Maori and Cook Islanders trace the same ancestry.  Oscar and Nate went to the spot from where, according to local, Sacred waka like the takitimu set out to New Zealand some 700 years ago.  The languages between the two cultures are very similar and Oscar says that it is just like having an older brother. Their “origin” stories – how they explain where they came from - are very similar too.

Arriving in Samoa it was Oscar’s turn to open his envelope revealing his DNA results.  His family appeared nervous, unsure of what the science would show.  Samoans can Pacific their ancestry back 12,000 years.

On the next leg of their journey the pair arrived in Vanuatu and found another means of tracing the routes of their migration:resemblances.  The Lapita peoples journeyed across the Pacific thousands of years ago, leaving behind the pottery which they made.  The pottery showed that the lapita people transferred their tattooing skills to pottery.  Carbon dating allows scientists to accurately date when the pottery was made.  An archaeological dig showed that skeletons were well preserved in their graves.  For Oscar and Nate, the dig seemed tapu (welcomed) but for the people of Vanuatu excavating the graves is a way of understanding their history.

The last stage in their journey took them to Taiwan.  Again they were amazed at how similar they looked in appearance to the indigenous coastal people of Taiwan, like Niwa who showed them around.  In a museum dedicated to pre-history, Oscar and Nate could see the patterns between the people, for examples in the facial moku.  Even some of the words used were similar.  The yam, taro and coconut all came from here and were taken across the Pacific by early voyagers.  Taiwan was the beginning of their journey story.
